BTech Biotechnology with brief overview of bioinformatics and BSc biotechnology
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Py2WXCHs-f8
Thank you all for the feedback and supports you gave on my previous uploads . I hope the same in much more amount in my future endeavors ….
Finally I am gonna talk about my course , i.e. B Tech biotechnology .
Thanks to Mr. Mayank Chhabra (BTech biotech , 4th year ) , Mr. Areeb Shamsi (BTech bioinfo , 3rd year ) , for their valuable contents and guidance for the upload .
Also thanks to those who contribute to my career advice survey .
The introductory line would be the same that I use everywhere it is the most widespread , established , versatile , flexible course in India (B Tech Industrial biotechnology is a better course , but found only in few colleges of Anna University – I am researching online on this course and would explain in detail once I get all the info ….. the curriculum really impressed me) . Biotechnology is one of the fastest growing career field in India , it is expected to well establish its presence in inustries like petroleum , food etc…
First question would be , whom does this course suit the most :
- People from PCMB background , who either want to carry forward math and biology , or doesn’t have an upper hand in either.
- Students from PCB bacground who want to carry forward all the subjects (those who can’t tolerate maths may opts for BSc (Hons ) biotechnology – but you won’t have adequate exposure to technicl and administrative knowledge , also there is negligible job recruitments after BSc) .
- Students from PCB without maths who want a graduation that would recruit them to IT sector , this is the only preferred option left ( if they don’t get admission in bioinformatic ).
- Students from bio background who doesn’t like rtoo much in depth study , but like variety and versatility in studies .
****************** (It’s the only option for non bio students to shift to bio career , and although many non bio students have excelled in it , but they are not advised to take this course because most of the basics are skipped in colleges , and it’s difficult to shift your mindset from pure math to biology oriented , and such a situation has become a threat to many *****************.
Now comes selection of college :
I would say , select the best affordable college who has best biotech laboratories , upsdated curriculum (industrial (or), research oriented – as per your career goal ).
Chores to be done during undergraduate life :
- Put all your efforts of first year to score maximum academic score (above 7.5) to be on the safer side in the upcoming years , to balance upcoming downfalls , if any…..
- Decide whether to go for corporate or research job ( even if the choice may get modified in future , but you need to fix upon and work one at a time )
a. For those who want a corporate life
(i) For those who want to be in core field
* For those who want a technical job – ( Go for industry oriented trainings/internships from first year itself in the field of your choice , if you don’t like one , you still have time to decide upon other , so earlier the better ). If you have a chance to do MTech in your mind , start preparing for GATE from 2nd year itself , cover all syllabus not taught in college by the end of 3rd year , because you might not get enough preparation in the 4th year due to placements , entrance exams etc….
Choose Biotech or lifescience paper as per your future career interests .
(
MTech is worth only if done from reputed colleges ….
Coleeges preferred are
-IIT Madras
– IIT delhi , IIT Bombay
)
* For those who want research job – (Start preparing yourselves through guidance , presentations(oral or posters ) , paper publications ( review and research ), projects etc…. , prepare for GATE (For MTech ) and CSIR NET …..(For JRF & PhD)
(ii) For those who want to change the field
* For those who want administration job – Star preparing for exams like
– CAT (specialised for IIMs),
– XAT,MAT,SNAP,TIS,NMAT (For non IIMs)
## Some MBA branches related to biotechnology :->
• Agribusiness and Food Management ( colleges preferred – IIM lucknow , Ahmedabad )
• Food technology
• Food management
• Pharmaceutical management
Most recruitments of biotech students after MBA are to the HR department .
* For those who want to shift to IT sector –
Excel your skills in computer languages , softwares .
3. Work on presenting the best CV
- Include maximum achievements during college life (Academics , co-curricular , projects , internships , publications …..).
- Polish your soft skills and communication skills .
4. Clear campus placement , which would be an asset to your CV.
Most recruitments of biotechnologists are in the following industries :->
- Pharmaceuticals
- Research labs
- Healthcare
- consultancy
Blunders made by career aspirants :
- Non bio students opting the career , and then regretting .
- not working upon skill developmentt and resume builing.
- Delaying decisions about further career, and not having a goal.
- Students opt for simple BSc ,or take biotech as an optional subject – In this case , aspirants get stuck and face hardship during recruitments as they lag behind BSc (Hons ) , and Btech students.
!!!!!!!!####****#*#*STUDENTS WHO WANT TO CLEAR I I T JAM -‘ biotech’ , WILL SHOULD TRY TO CLEAR CLASS 12TH MATHS BOARD EXAM (“You can clear it even during your graduation” ****####*#*#*#!!!!
#*#*#*#* THIS POST WOULD BE INCOMPLETE IF I DON’T MENTION ABOUT ONE OF THE SUB-FIELDS OF BIOTECH , WHO IS EMERGING AS A SEPARATE FIELD :*#*#*#*#
“BIOINFORMATICS ”
This is usually chosen by biotech aspirants who are more inclined towards IT sector , and didn’t have mathematics in class 12th .
Bioinformatics involves maintaining , developing , analysing , and understanding the forms of biology on a computer .They have upper hand over pharmaceutical graduates in research work. The preparations are mentioned in the IT approach above. This field currently has negligible corporate recruitment . So students planning to pursue corporate job in bioinformatics , may have to amend their decisions.
Main programming languages include python , bio-pearl , JAVA…
**##** STUDENTS WHO ARE GOING ABROAD SHOULD PREPARE FOR THE FOLLOWING EXAMS :
- G R E ,- for MS /Mtech
- 2.GMAT – for M B A
Other than this you’ll have to clear communication skill exams , like TOFEL , IELTS …
Hope , you all like the post…
